John Hummel was re-election for his second term as District Attorney in May 2018. John brings safety to our community, protects our tax dollars, and is a leader with integrity and professionalism whom we trust.
Under John’s leadership, the Deschutes County crime rate has decreased by 8 percent, and administrative challenges have all but disappeared under his professional management. John has successfully worked with county leaders and local law enforcement to make the Deschutes County District Attorney’s office trustworthy again.
Before becoming District Attorney, John spent his life committed to Deschutes County, the state of Oregon, and democracy worldwide. Immediately prior to his service as District Attorney John advocated for Oregon health clinics that provide healthcare services to Oregonians and children with low incomes. Before that work, he promoted democracy with the Carter Center in Liberia, ran the Oregon Consensus Program, and worked as a criminal defense attorney.
John lives in Northeast Bend and enjoys the Central Oregon lifestyle. Running on trails, practicing banjo, and watching sports are amongst John's hobbies.
